Tyler Holt burst onto the scene this season at a time when the Indians need him. With injuries and inconsistent play from veterans Nick Swisher and Ryan Raburn, the young outfielder will play a vital role down the stretch if the team is to stay in contention.
Although not entirely off the radar, Holt certainly was not viewed as a player who would be important to the Indians in 2014; at least not to the average fan.
Holt was a 2010 tenth round pick of the Indians out of Florida State University. With a 6’0”, 180 lb. frame, he has a medium athletic frame and good strength for his size. According to Perfect Game, he’s a 6.62 runner who maximizes his speed with an all out hustling style of play. Watching his play over the past two weeks, we can conclude that speed is one of his strengths. His outfield defensive fundamentals are excellent as was on displayed during the Baltimore series. He makes accurate, on line throws and has very good arm strength.
He hits out of a open stance and has a flat, line drive swing with very good bat speed. He stays on the ball a long time and hits line drives to all fields with authority. With his speed and hustle, Holt is probably going to lead the league in triples if he is able to stay in the bigs.
TORRY Holt may be an Hall Of Famer in the NFL but the Indians are hoping that TYLER Holt puts them in a position to make the postseason.
