It’s no secret that Tyreke Evans has struggled with his jump shot this season. But it appears help has arrived.
Big brother Reggie Evans arrived in Sacramento Thursday morning with Keith “Shot Doc” Veney, a professional shooting coach who has worked with NBA players such as Dirk Nowitzki, Ben Gordon, Caron Butler and Paul Pierce.
Tyreke’s jumper has been an ongoing problem. He is now down to a career-low 22 percent from behind the three-point line. And according to 82games.com, Tyreke has an effective field-goal percentage of just 30 percent on jump shots compared to 59 percent around the rim.
“I want to work to become a better shooter,” Tyreke said before Wednesday’s loss to the Pistons. “It’s only a matter of time, but it’s not going to happen over night. It’s good for him to come in and give me some techniques.”
Tyreke’s brothers Doc and Reggie understand his struggles and are doing their best to provide support for their youngest brother.
“This is what he wants,” Doc said earlier this week. “He’s trying to find his shot.”
Veney has an impressive resume, both as a coach and a player. In 1996, Veney set the NCAA all-time single game record for three-point shots made with 15. He made 409 three-pointers in four seasons at Marshall University, which ranks him eighth all-time in three-point field goals made in NCAA history.
Veney will be in town for a “week or two”, according to Doc Evans. Tyreke will be working with him as a supplement to team activities.
