Following a second opinion on his ailing left knee, surgery won’t be in the plans for Tyreke Evans.  The Sacramento Kings announced today that Evans will rejoin the team in Toronto and continue with his current rehab regimen in hopes of returning to the court early next week.

According to today’s press release,  Dr. Steven Lombardo of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles confirmed the team’s original diagnosis.

Since the fourth-year forward originally injured his knee Nov. 27 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, his playing time has been sporadic.   After missing two games, Evans initially returned Dec. 5 to face the Toronto Raptors, but missed the next three games due to soreness in his knee.  He returned again on Dec. 12 against the Milwaukee Bucks then played in parts of the next two games before shutting it down again on Dec. 16 after playing just 10 minutes against the Denver Nuggets.

In total, Evans has missed 13 games this year with what’s been diagnosed as a sore left knee. Evans had originally targeted a return to the court this past Sunday, but following a rigorous workout Saturday, he once again felt discomfort in the knee.

The Kings starting shooting guard is averaging 15.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.3 steals in 31 minutes a game, but injuries have limited him to just 18 games played this season.
