UC to Play in the Emerald Coast Classic

It was officially announced yesterday that the Cincinnati basketball team will play in the Emerald Coast Classic. This is basically a twist on the Global Sports thing that UC has been participating in the past few seasons. When UC played every North Carolina team last year, that was part of the Global thing. This year though, it’s a tournament. In Florida.

Cincinnati plays 3 guarantee games before they play the winner of a Creighton-Ole Miss game. The Cats kick off action on my birthday November 23 against Eastern Illinois. Two days later, the Cats face off against North Carolina Central. After a trip to Florida, Cincinnati will take on Middle Tennessee. The following day is when UC will play Creighton or Ole Miss.

Historically speaking, Cincinnati has dominated the field. They have 1 loss against the teams they could play. That loss was to Creighton in the NCAA tournament. UC is 1-0 against both Ole Miss and NC Central. They are 3-0 against Middle Tennessee. UC is 2-1 against Creighton.

Cupcake, cupcake, perennially tough mid-major, potential bubble team with name value. Not a bad little tournament. Or should I say ‘tournament’.
