UConn Women Roll To 83rd Straight Win

Sooner or later the UConn Huskies women’s basketball team will lose a game. But as this young season is going, it doesn’t look like they’ll lose one anytime soon.

Maya Moore dishes the ball to Tiffany Hayes around Lehigh's Alexa Williams during the first half at Gampel Pavilion. Moore scored 24 of her game-high 29 points in the first half. Senior All-American Maya Moore had 29 points, 24 in the first half, to help lead the Huskies to an 81-38 win over the Lehigh Mountain Hawks in front of 7,039 at Gampel Pavilion in the World Visiion Challenge on Saturday night.

The Huskies improve to 5-0 while the Mountain Hawks fall to 1-5. It’s the 83rd straight win for the Huskies.

In addition to the 29 points, Moore also had five rebounds, four assists and four steals in just 28 minutes. Tiffany Hayes added 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Freshman Samarie Walker, making her first start, and Bria Hartley both chipped in with 11 points with Walker adding seven rebounds and Hartley had four assists. Kelly Faris added four points and four assists while Stefanie Dolson came off the bench to score eight points.

Aly Byorick led the Mountain Hawks with eight points while Erica Prosser had seven. Emily Gratch led the Mountain Hawks with six points to go along with six points.

UConn started the game off with a 23-7 run and never looked back from there. The lead would only continue to grow from there as the Huskies hot shooting behind Moore was more than enough.

Moore outscored the Mountain Hawks 24-19 in the first half.

The Huskies will now face the LSU Tigers on Sunday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. for the “defacto” World Vision Challenge title. The tournament is a round-robin format and both teams are 2-0. The game will be televised locally in CT on CPTV.
