UConn Loses DE Marcus Campbell For Year With Torn ACL

Defensive end Marcus Campbell stands on the sidelines at the Huskies' first spring football practice.

The UConn Huskies football team suffered a big loss on Saturday as it was announced on Sunday night that defensive end Marcus Campbell would be out for the season with a torn ACL. Campbell suffered the knee injury in a non-contract drill.

Campbell would have been a starter at defensive end for the Huskies this season and with Greg Lloyd out as well, the defensive end position just got a lot younger and inexperienced. Campbell sat out 2009 with academic issues but worked them out to rejoin the team in 2010.

Now he’ll have to wait until 2011 to help the Huskies.

Here’s the press release from UConn:

STORRS, Conn. (August 15, 2010) – University of Connecticut junior defensive end Marcus Campbell (Bloomfield, Conn.) will miss the entire 2010 season after he torn an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in practice on Saturday.

Campbell suffered the injury in a non-contact drill. He will have surgery for the injury later in the week.

Campbell has played in 23 games for the Huskies in 2007 and ’08 and has 24 career tackles with a pair of sacks and 4.5 tackles for a loss. He did not play during the 2009 season.
