UConn Loses Robbie Frey, Jimmy Bennett To Surgery

During the weekly Big East Conference coaches teleconference on Monday, UConn Huskies head coach Randy Edsall announced that backup running back Robbie Frey underwent knee surgery and will be out for 2-3 weeks.

UConn running back Robbie Frey buttons up his chin strap in preparation for a big afternoon against Vanderbilt. Edsall also announced that offensive tackle Jimmy Bennett will undergo hand surgery on Thursday and miss 4-5 weeks. Bennett also has a knee issue hence the reason he’ll be out a little longer.

Frey didn’t see any action on offense in the win over Vanderbilt but did play a little on special teams. In five games this year, Frey has 37 carries for 269 yards and three touchdowns. He also has seven kickoff returns for 149 yards and has also made five tackles on special teams, including a big one on Saturday that saved a touchdown.
