Here’s a press release from ESPN and the Big East Conference concerning the Big Monday schedule on ESPN. Our UConn Huskies will make a grand total of two appearances on Big Monday this season. And I’m guessing with the release of this, the full schedule for the season should be released any day now.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The BIG EAST Conference and ESPN have announced the network’s Big Monday schedule of BIG EAST games for the 2010-11 men’s basketball season. The remaining schedule of ESPN telecasts will be announced in the near future.
Traditionally, the Big Monday lineup begins with a BIG EAST game at 7 p.m. ET followed by a game from the Big 12 Conference on ESPN. However, on the first week, two BIG EAST games will be shown on Jan. 17, the Presidents Day holiday. Villanova will play at Connecticut at 3:30 p.m. followed by Syracuse, last year’s BIG EAST regular-season champion, at Pittsburgh at 7:30. All Big Monday games will be simulcast on ESPN3.com.
In addition to a seven-week run of Big Monday games, BIG EAST contests will be shown on the three previous Mondays, Dec. 27, Jan. 3 and Jan. 10, on ESPN2. All eight league squads that participated in the 2010 NCAA Championship will appear at least once on a Monday on the network. Final Four participant West Virginia will appear twice, at home against Pittsburgh on Feb. 7 and at Syracuse on Feb. 14.

ESPN and the BIG EAST have been longtime partners and have virtually grown up together. The BIG EAST’s first season of competition was 1979-80, when ESPN was launched. The BIG EAST has always been a part of the Big Monday format, which began in the 1986-87 season. League teams were regularly seen on Mondays on ESPN before the night officially became Big Monday.
ESPN again will televise the 2011 BIG EAST Championship Presented by American Eagle at Madison Square Garden in New York.
