Here’s a press release from the UConn Athletics Communication department concerning a press conference tomorrow.
The University of Connecticut Division of Athletics and SportsNet New York (SNY) will hold a press conference on Thursday, August 5 at Rentschler Field to announce a new television partnership in conjunction with the BIG EAST Conference and ESPN Regional Television.
Here’s my problem with this announcement.
It seems as though this means we won’t be able to watch the UConn Huskies football or men’s basketball games on WTNH 8 or MyTV9 anymore. And if you’re cable provider is Cox Cable like mine or Charter Communications like my parents, you won’t be able to watch the games because SNY is not carried by them.
Essentially half of the state wouldn’t be able to watch the games as the only ones who broadcast SNY are Cablevision and Comcast. Ironically enough if you attend UConn, you wouldn’t be able to watch the games on television either since Huskyvision doesn’t carry SNY.
While it’s probable there could be a deal with Cox and SNY announced in the near future, I find it highly unlikely they’ll add SNY to appease their UConn fans. It’s probably going to take a campaign of phone calls, emails and letters to COX or even Charter to get SNY added to the lineup.
