The UConn Huskies baseball team had a great run this season and saw three of their players drafted during the 2010 MLB Draft. One of those players was Branford, CT native Mike Olt, who was the 49th overall pick on the first day of the draft in the compensation round by the Texas Rangers.
And according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, Olt has signed with the Rangers, receiving a signing bonus of $717,300.
Olt, who turns 22 in August, hit .318 with 23 homers and 76 RBIs for UConn this season. He set the Connecticut all-time home run record with 44 in his three seasons. He is considered an outstanding defender with tremendous power who may have issues battling professional breaking balls.
Congratulations to Olt and best of luck.
