Considering UFC 127 is, in our opinion, a weak card, we decided against doing our “Big Questions” feature for it. Rather, here is your quick and easy cheat sheet for the event – here’s what our crystal ball sees happening tonight in Sydney.
– Jon Fitch will continue his dominance in the cage, grinding out a decision victory over B.J. Penn. If Frankie Edgar was able to continuously take Penn down to the mat in their two fights, the bigger, strong Fitch will have no trouble doing the same. The fight won’t be pretty, fans will continue to call Fitch boring and there’s no chance he’ll be taking home any end of the night bonuses, but AKA’s resident vegan will come out of the evening victorious once again, pushing his winning streak to six.
– Jorge Rivera might have won the trash-talking battle, but Michael Bisping will win the war in the Octagon. Rivera will then disappear to the undercard where he probably belongs, while Bisping will wrongly be dubbed a title contender. More than likely Bisping will face a bigger name opponent his next match and lose – any time the brash Brit faces a step up in the competition (Wanderlei Silva, Dan Henderson, Rashad Evans) he inevitably comes up short.
– Look out for the Aussies. At UFC 110, the home crowd spurred the Australian/New Zealanders on the card to a 2-1 record. That bodes will Saturday night for George Sotiropoulos, Kyle Noke, James Te-Huna, Anthony Perosh and Mark Hunt (on second thought, probably not Mark Hunt).
– Speaking of Sotiropoulos, he’ll continue his climb to the upper echelons of the UFC’s lightweight division by dispatching Dennis Siver. After tonight he should be one more victory away from a title shot.
– And our easiest prediction yet – Chris Lytle will win an end of the night bonus. That’s just how he rolls.
