Hi boys and girls – back again with your favourite game – guess the pay-per-view buyrate total for an upcoming UFC PPV! And, as always, I’m your friendly host for the game. Next up is yet another injury-depleted UFC PPV, this Saturday’s UFC 130, headlined by Rampage Jackson vs Matt Hamill.
There’s the UFC’s problem right there – Rampage vs Hamill is a main event for a pay-per-view. Not exactly a match that fans have been clamoring to see. Of course, the original headliner was supposed to be Frankie Edgar vs Gray Maynard III, but both men pulled out due to injuries. It’s not as if Edgar-Maynard were big sellers anyways – their meeting at UFC 125 sold only 270,000 units, but their inclusion on UFC 130’s card just made it a lot stronger and deeper than it currently is. Then Thiago Silva got suspended and couldn’t fight Rampage as expected, so we’re left with Rampage vs Hamill. Yawn. The co-main event actually is far more intriguing, as Frank Mir goes up against Roy Nelson. Heavyweights always sell well, so that fact might save this card. Plus Rampage is normally good for sales – he’s only sold under 500,000 PPVs twice in his career.
Well, let’s make that three times in his career now, as we’re predicting that UFC 130 will sell 400,000 buys.
