Rousey’s drawing power pushing UFC tickets up on secondary market

Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to the pay-per-view market this Saturday, February 28th with a fight card featuring the women’s bantamweight title fight between Ronda Rousey against No. 1 contender Cat Zingano.

This event will be Rousey’s first headlining feature since her UFC 170 title defense over Sara McMann last February. The co-main event will also feature a women’s bantamweight bout, as former boxing champion Holly Holm makes her UFC debut against the dangerous Ultimate Fighter veteran Raquel Pennington.

It is unusual that both main events feature women’s fights. Questions about how this PPV will fare are valid, and will provide some insight as to if Rousey has enough star power to headline events. In Rousey’s last four Octagon bouts, two were PPV headliners and neither could be considered a smashing success. Her debut even at UFC 157 against Liz Carmouche faired well, but that event had the allure of the first-ever women’s fight inside the Octagon.

Her second event as a headliner didn’t go as well, but when she involved in the co-main event to UFC 168 and UFC 175, both did well. But Rousey headlining the event wasn’t always the plan. Plans had to be changed on the fly after UFC middleweight champ Chris Weidman had to cancel his title fight against Vitor Belfort with an injury. Rousey’s fight against Zingano was once slated to be the co-main event for UFC 184.

Josh Koscheck and Jake Ellenberger are two fighters who’s best efforts are behind them. Whoever loses may recall this fight as their last.

Tony Ferguson is one of the most exciting fighters in UFC today, and “El Cucuy” should star in the opening fight on the main card for UFC 184. Ferguson has a 7-1 record, with his only loss coming against Michael Johnson via decision. Ferguson is currently riding a four-fight winning streak faces UFC mainstay Gleison Tibau in his hometown.

Tibau is a perfect test for Ferguson and if he passes with flying colors this weekend, a top-10 bout could be on the horizon.

According to TiqIQ.com, there are fewer than 500 tickets remaining to UFC 184: Ronda Rousey vs. Cat Zingano at the Staples Center with an average ticket price of $435.03 with a walk-in price of $85.

With UFC 184 being promoted mainly by two women’s bouts, the main thing to watch may not be the fights themselves, but instead, the drawing power of Rousey.
