Trade Two
Clippers get Kawhi Leonard
Spurs gets Tobias Harris, Patrick Beverley, Sam Dekker, two future first-round picks, another year’s pick swap
The big three in Los Angeles is officially no more now that DeAndre Jordan is a Maverick. The Clippers lack a star player, and with James now a Laker, the Clippers are easily an afterthought in Los Angeles. However, Jerry West isn’t one to stand for that for very long. Rather than trying to sign Leonard next offseason, they could make a push to trade for him now knowing he wants to be in Los Angeles long-term and the Clippers can offer the most money next offseason if he is already on the roster. Losing Beverley is tough to swallow but the Clippers just spent two lottery picks on guards and re-signed Avery Bradley.
Harris is in the last year of his deal and can give the Spurs some athleticism and three-point shooting to better space the floor around LaMarcus Aldridge. Beverley would fill the role left by Tony Parker while upgrading defensively and can play with Dejounte Murray at the same time. Dekker is a salary filler but is still just 24-years-old. The Spurs will want at least two first-round picks and another year’s swap since the Clippers aren’t sending back a young star. However, if it avoids the Lakers get Leonard, the Spurs might just make the deal.
