Welcome to UndercarDVR, where we review what you need to see from this week in combat sports. We go fight by fight to see whether it needs to be watched, saved, deleted, or watched in fast forward.
This weekend was explosive from top to bottom, whether it be low-level fireworks or military-grade bombs. UFC 193 featured Ronda Rousey defending her UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship against Holly Holm and a UFC Women’s Strawweight Championship co-main event. Meanwhile, a contender looked to reestablish himself in Premier Boxing Champions and the prospects looked to make ShoBox end as quickly as possible.
Get your remote ready.
Premier Boxing Champions on Spike (Friday 11/13)
- Light Heavyweight Bout: Thomas Williams Jr. vs. Umberto Savigne: The kickoff to this card started the pace for the rest of the evening and it was a very good precedent to set. Both men got their offense in before the quick ending in the second round. It would light the fuse to this dynamite card that you could watch in half an hour or so. Verdict: Save
- Welterweight Bout: Bryant Perrella vs. Chaquib Fadli: Your swing bout of the card again delivered a whole lot of action in a little bit of time. These lackluster weekday cards sometimes take you by surprise with unexpected breakout performances and wild fights and this card was one chock full of them. Verdict: Save
- Light Heavyweight Bout: Edwin Rodriguez vs. Michael Seals: This main event kicked off a weekend full of finishes and exciting back and forth. Clocking in at only three rounds with both men throwing bombs and landing knockdowns, this will be a lot of bang for a few bucks of your time. The rare all Save card is earned by this PBC event. Verdict: Save
ShoBox: The New Generation on Showtime (Saturday 11/14)
- Light Heavyweight Bout: David Benavidez vs. Felipe Romero: An even quicker beating here to kick off the night and it was done with some style. It would take you longer to make a sandwich than to sit back and watch a pretty slick finish. This probably won’t be as disappointing as your sandwich, either. Verdict: Watch
- Middleweight Bout: Sergiy Derevyanchenko vs. Jessie Nicklow: A more brief beating than the main event, worth the few minutes to see the development of a pretty solid prospect and see the fireworks. Swift and painless for you, but not so much for the loser. Verdict: Watch
- Super Welterweight Bout: Frank Galarza vs. Jarrett Hurd: This fight was a one-sided beating that surprised quite a few in the boxing world. Under any other circumstances, this would be a definite watch. But, on such a stacked weekend, probably best to not waste all your time on six rounds. Worth a look, but don’t be afraid to have your finger on the flipper. Verdict: Fast Forward
UFC 193: Rousey vs. Holm, Saturday 11/14
- Heavyweight Bout: Jared Rosholt vs. Stefan Struve: An absolute snoozer. Neither fighter played to their strengths, both played it absurdly safe and didn’t take any chances that could have led to a finish, just an absolute yawner. Verdict: Skip
- Welterweight Bout: Robert Whitaker vs. Uriah Hall: Aaaaaaand there’s the Uriah Hall we all know and hate. Folks who thought he’d finally turned the corner after the Mousasi fight were sorely mistaken and he went right back to being the bored, disinterested, barely there, lackluster Uriah Hall that he’s been for 85% of his UFC career. Whitaker took it easily. Verdict: Skip
- Heavyweight Bout: Antonio Silva vs. Mark Hunt: ROUND SIX! DING! This one wasn’t long and ended pretty violently, so you can watch this one as-is. Verdict: Watch
- UFC Women’s Strawweight Championship: Joanna Jedrzejczyk (c) vs. Valerie Letourneau: Wasn’t the usually Joanna Violence bloodbath that we’ve come to expect, but it was still a fantastic showing of technical striking that Jedrzejczyk put on and the fight was easily hers, but you should give this one a speed boost to get through all twenty-five minutes. Verdict: Fast-Forward
- UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship: Ronda Rousey (c) vs. Holly Holm: SAVE IT! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SAVE IT! SAVE IT OVER EVERYTHING YOU HAVE! I DON’T GIVE A SHIT IF YOUR CHILD’S FIRST STEPS WERE AIRING LIVE ON CNN, YOU FUCKING DELETE IT AND SAVE THIS FIGHT! Verdict: SAVE!
