The Philadelphia Union will open up the season at home on March 2, 2013 against Sporting Kansas City. This is the first season the Union will be opening up at home. The Union are 1-2 on season openers and are 2-1 in home openers.
It will be a tough first game for the Union as they will be going up against one of the top teams in MLS. SKC finished top in the east with 63 points that is 27 points higher then the Union. They also eliminated the Union from the Open cup in the semi-finals last year.
Although Sporting finished in first place they fell out of the playoffs early. Sporting are currently going through a roster makeover. They recently acquired Benny Failhabber from the New England Revolution. Also they have signed new DP Claudio Bieler from Ecuador.
As tough of a game this will be, it will be met with anticipation. The Union are looking forward to putting last season behind them and begin on a positive note. Le Toux along with new signing Connor Casey both will be looking to make their mark on the new season.
A week later Connor Casey returns home as the Union will take on the Colorado Rapids on March 9th. Casey is the Rapids all time leading goal scorer and brought a title to Colorado. He surely will be met with a heroes welcome when he takes the pitch for the Union.
