Union to face “Worst team in the world”

Union to face

The Union head up north to face Toronto FC this weekend in a battle between bottom feeders. The Union are second to last with 8 points and TFC stands at an impressive 0 points. Star striker, Danny Kovermans, claims that they are “the Worst Team in the world”. He went on to say “Name me one team in the whole world that is 0-9″. Toronto’s offense is the most unproductive offense having only scored 7 goals (1 less than the Union).

Last year, a slumping Union team got a huge boost from playing TFC in Canada, when the U exploded for six goals. This match up looks to be everything the Union need to get back on track and rack up three points. A solid 90 minutes can go a long way for the Union.

The Union don’t only need to win they need to look good doing so. The wins against Columbus and Chivas were ugly wins. The Union have yet to show they are a 90 minute team.

Is this a trap game? We all know that nothing is certain for the Union. Every team wins eventually and the Red Patch Boys are coming off winning their 4th straight Canadian Championship. That victory jolted TFC to further victories in league play. It is not like TFC is not a talent less squad, Danny Kovermans, Frings, Plata, Eric Avila and Julian De Guzman all are quality players.

A look on the bright side is that the Union get Freddy Adu back. If Adu can play like he did in the game against NYRB (minus the red card) one would expect the Union to win. The Union also gain back Farfan, who is coming off a three game suspension. New acquisition Lahood has a full week of practice with his new team. That is a positive because Nowak loves using new toys every time a new player joins the team expect him to log minutes. TFC are winless in league play and coming off a big midweek cup win. I would not be surprised if Toronto has a bit of a cup hangover.

Prediction: The Union win in ugly fashion. This game could be the ugliest game of soccer ever played too, struggling teams who do not always play aesthetically pleasing soccer. The Union can grind out games and have shown toughness this season. As ugly as this game will be their will be opportunities for Union players to show moments of brilliance. Keon, Farfans, Adu, Danny Mwanga, all are overdue for a moment of brilliance.

Union win 1-0.

Other Union Notes:
The Union will face the Rochester Rhinos on Tuesday the 29th at PPL Park. Tickets are just $15 and can be bought online or at the gate.

Costa Rica calls up defender Porfirio Lopez for world cup qualifying. Lopez has fallen out the first team with coach Nowak but joins the national side.
