UPDATE: 2013 NFL Draft: Michael Dyer Not Headed to Prairie View A&M, Still College-Less

Michael DyerUPDATED: August 14th, 3:45 pm EST- Al.com is reporting that Prairie View A&M head coach Heishma Northern says he nor his staff has spoken to Dyer about his transfer. However, Joe Schad is reporting that paperwork is the hold-up. However, it seems, based off of Dyer’s actual Twitter page, he will NOT be attending Praire View A&M University and is still college-less.

Michael Dyer was set to be the feature running back for the University of Auburn since he left high school. He had a major impact in his freshman year with Cam Newton at the helm, rushing for over 1,000 yards. As a sophomore he averaged over 5 yards per attempt and finished with over 1200 yards as a sophomore.

His junior season was set to be his NFL Draft staple season and maybe be up for the Heisman Trophy if things went according to plan. But things so far haven’t gone according to plan. And now, he’s set to be the starting running back for Prairie View A&M.

In an effort to follow his offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn to his new school, Dyer attempted to transfer to Arkansas State before being quickly dismissed by the aforementioned Malzahn. After beign school-less for a few weeks, Michael Dyer tweeted today about his new school.

Dyer, who’s rushed for over 2,000 yards in the SEC, should have an easier time being productive in the SWAC with Prairie View A&M. The school has had frequent fringe and actual NFL prospects, most recently defensive end Adrian Hamilton who has performed well for the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent thus far.

But Dyer will supersede Hamilton as likely the best player at the school in recent history. After speaking with Optimum Scouting’s scout Alex Brown, he stressed just how talented Michael Dyer is as a running back.

“Compact and powerfully built, Dyer is in a lot of ways similar to Maurice Jones-Drew. Excellent in tight spaces due to his quick first step, decisiveness in the hole, and balance to keep his feet through contact. Dyer consistently gains positive yardage between the tackles. Naturally powerful and explosive, he combines his physical tools with outstanding vision.

“Able to outrun angles, Dyer also possesses the speed needed on permeter runs. He’s a true workhorse back with the build, strength, and stamina to carry the abll 25-35 times a game, builidng confidence as the game wears on.

“With all that said, he’s been now kicked out of two universities in less than a year…Can I trust this guy? Don’t know yet, we’ll have to find out.”

Dyer will have a chance to thrive at Prairie View A&M this season, but they lack set difference makers on offense besides him. But with Michael Dyer in the fold, the offense building around him should make things much easier on offense.

As of now, it seems evident that Dyer will likely declare after the 2012 season for the 2013 NFL Draft. They may be his best bet in terms of limiting his career carries, as he’ll likely finish with over 450-500 carries in his college career. But despite his talent in the SEC and the fact that he’ll likely dominate in the SWAC, he still has high expectations to meet in 2012 if he hopes to be a Top 4 round running back, along with answering his off-the-field questions.
