In today’s world of college football, appearance is everything. We all give our hard earned money so that the athletic department can build nicer locker rooms, academic centers, coaches offices and eventually stadiums. Well one thing that has been sorely over looked at Williams Brice Stadium is the video board/ score board. Of the 12 schools in the SEC, USC has the 2nd smallest in the conference, behind only Vandy. I find this embarrassing and really wish the athletic department would go ahead and update the score board. Of the 79 Division 1 schools that have video screens at their football stadium’s William Brice is ranked 69th largest.
The current video board at Williams Brice measures 26 feet by 19 feet, or 494 square feet. If I were to ask you, which stadium has a large video screen between Duke’s Wallace Wade Stadium or Williams Brice, what would you say. I would say “well seeing that Wallace Wade only holds a little under 43,000 fans, I would guess Williams Brice.” Well I would be wrong. Duke’s Video board is a massive 1,316 square feet, a whooping 822 square feet more then the mini tv at Williams Brice.
I was also surprised to find out that Miss State’s Davis Wade Stadium has the largest video screen in the SEC (5217 Sq ft) , and third largest in the country behind Texas(7,437) and Miami(6,717). However Miami now plays in Sun Life Stadium, which is an NFL stadium, so I don’t know if that should even count.
I think it is time for USC to spend the money and provide us fans that sit in the upper deck a decent video screen to look at. We all remember the season the video screen was held up by a crane, lets not go through that again.
