USA Basketball 2014: Stephen Curry And Klay Thompson Stand Out Among NBA’s Top Talent (Photo Via @Warriors Instagram)
For the first time in international competition, the Golden State Warriors will have two representatives on Team USA for the 2014 FIBA World Cup. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson have made survived the final roster cuts, and will be looking to bring home gold this summer.
Curry had a team leading 20 points on 6 of 7 shooting in the team’s final tune-up game against Puerto Rico. Thompson chipped in 12 points on 4 for 9 from behind the arc. Among some of the NBA’s best talent both Warriors are making an impact, which says a lot about how talented they really are.
“When you are around great talent [and] great minds, you are going to get better just by surrounding yourself with those kinds of people.” Curry told us at Team USA practice, “A mental toughness and focus is required as we take on the challenge of winning a gold medal and probably have some adversity to fight through.”
Any time a player steps out on the floor; they face the threat of suffering an injury. While Warriors fans and Warriors management may be holding their breath every time Curry and Thompson enter the game, being involved with team USA may have more upside than risk.
“Everyone is going to get better in some shape or form… Like I said, there are so many great minds and basketball IQ’s that you are going to become a better player and a better presence by being here.”
