The Golden State Warriors starting backcourt duo of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson are currently representing USA Basketball’s Men’s National Team (#USABMNT) on the international level.
With players both playing the shooting guard position, #TeamUSA head coach Mike Krzyzewski has played the two together for only short stints during games.
Curry says he enjoys being in the FIBA tournament with his fellow #SplashBrothers teammate.
“It’s fun,” Curry told reporters after practice three days ago before the USA sent Lithuania to the Third Place game, “It’s a familiar face that you go to battle with everyday and being in a different situation here, it’s something that we can remember. I’m learning a lot about him, stuff I didn’t know. So this is a cool experience to go through.”
Thompson and Curry have combined for 22 points, nearly 6 rebounds and 6 assists per game, while the due is shooting a collective 43% from beyond the arc through 8 tournament games.
Because Curry has represented the United State in FIBA’s World Cup in 2010, he was able to give some advice to Thompson, who is now in a similar position as a rookie of the international game.
“I just told him to be himself,” Curry said, “He’s definitely ready for this moment and a capable basketball player.”
In his last three #Spain2014 games, Thompson has been displaying his wide basketball skill-set, averaging 17.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.0 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game.
