Today, the USC Gamecocks football coaching staff added John Butler as Special Teams Coach and also gave a new role to a existing coach, Steve Spurrier Jr.
Spurrier Jr., pictured above, has been given the additional duties of recruiting coordinator just as he begins his seventh season on the Gamecocks coaching staff.
This is a interesting move by HBC Spurrier in naming his son as the recruiting “go-to-guy” and it is also noteworthy that Spurrier Jr. will retain his duties as wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator. Seems like a lot but also I can understand the move in this direction. The name Spurrier will open a lot of doors and will help Spurrier Jr. continue to grow as he is getting primed to be a head coach in the future. It also puts the stamp on the future direction of the program. Spurrier is serious about making USC a legit year-to-year contender for SEC Championships by putting his son in the role.
What are your thoughts on this change?
