In preparation for the upcoming matches USMNT head coach Jurgen Klinsmann released the roster for the upcoming training camp. This training camp will last three weeks and serve as an audition before the roster for the world cup qualifying is announced. When the qualifying roster is announced expect a more European based roster.
Fwds: Juan Agudelo, Will Bruin, Edson Buddle, Eddie Johnson, Chris Wondolowski
Mids: Kyle Beckerman, Alejandro Bedoya, Brad Davis, Mix Diskerud, Brad Evans, Benny Feilhaber, Josh Gatt, Graham Zusi
Defenders: Steven Beitashour, Tony Beltran, Matt Besler, AJ DeLaGarza, Omar Gonzalez, Connor Lade, Alfredo Morales, Justin Morrow, Jeff Parke
Goalies: Tally Hall, Bill Hamid, Sean Johnson.
All of these players are “fringe players” all competing for a spot on the qualifying roster. This camp features some shocks and surprises. The biggest shock has to be Edson Buddle, who showed poor form all season long with only netting three goals.
This roster is offering up a second shot for some players who fell out of favor over the recent years. Feilhaber, Bedoya, and Agudelo all have been skipped over recently and are looking to re-prove themselves. Although these players are young, chances will be slim if they fail to impress.
Jeff Parke who recently joined the Philadelphia Union has been selected to his second USMNT camp and is hoping to make the cut. Parke is the first Union player to be selected to the senior side. Union players have become regulars at the youth ranks with the likes of Okugo, McMath, Pfeffer and Jack MacInerney.
Parke made one camp for the USMNT in 2012 and is looking to become a regular. With uncertainty in the CB position this camp is a huge opportunity for Parke to stake his claim. Klinsmann is looking for a second CB to go with Camroon and Parke could be it. Bocanegra is showing poor form and battling injuries. Gooch and Edu are struggling to gain minutes at their clubs. Omar Gonzalez is coming off a lengthy injury. All these factors leave the door wide open for one of MLS’s top defenders.
