The University of Wisconsin Badgers men’s basketball team has a trip to Maui, a date with Syracuse at the Kohl Center and the annual Marquette matchup already on the nonconference docket.
Thanks to an announcement by the University of Oklahoma, we also know that the Sooners will visit the Kohl Center on Dec. 3. It will be the third matchup in as many years for the two teams, and the rubber match as well.
Wisconsin took it to Oklahoma, 69-56, in the final of the 2014 Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in the Bahamas, while the Sooners blasted the Badgers 65-48 in Norman, Okla. last year.
It will also be the ninth meeting all-time between the two sides, with the record standing at a stalemate as well (4-4).
UW has yet to announce its full nonconference schedule, but this appears to be one of the most high profile games on the docket. Wisconsin is also in a loaded field for the Maui Invitational over the Thanksgiving holiday week — one that includes North Carolina, Oregon, UConn, Georgetown, Oklahoma State, Tennessee and host Chaminade. However, it doesn’t know its opening opponent yet as the bracket has yet to be released.
With every starter and every key contributor back from last season, Wisconsin has high expectations internally and externally for the 2016-17 season and a test like this, even with OU missing Buddy Hield, will be a good one to have on the resume come Selection Sunday.
