Now that San Antonio Spurs’ Tiago Splitter will be joining Valencia Basket for the duration of the NBA lockout, head coach Paco Olmos spoke on Tiago’s signing.
Olmos says the addition of Splitter (via acb.com) will help the team and be great for their fans.
“(Tiago) comes with the mindset of helping to make the team more competitive.”
“The team will benefit, and the fans will get to enjoy a great player like Splitter” he said.
Olmos also praised Valencia’s effort into adding Splitter especially with the team needing size with injuries.
“Faverani Vitor’s injury does not look good and the inner game is in the hands of Nik Caner-Medley and Lishchuk because Ogilvy (Andrew James) has had problems in the ankle.”
And if you think Olmos is worried about Splitter disrupting team cohesion, think again.
“Splitter is a great guy, very professional.”
“His adaptation is not difficult because he knows the competition and many of his peers and introducing a big man is easier than a smaller player” he acknowledged.
“Splitter fulfills the role of ‘man quota’ and will not disrupt the team.”
As the lockout continues with no end in sight, Splitter could make his Valencia debut as early as this Sunday.
