Vegas Action, Week Three

Vegas Action, Week Three

Good Tuesday to you Cougar Nation! Last week I brought you a new and improved version of my weekly, Vegas Style post, and after seeing your thoughts and comments, we most definitely will be continuing this format.  Looking back at some of my predictions, I wasn’t quite 50/50 on my takes. We didn’t surpass 200 yards rushing, even though we were up by multiple scores, we kept throwing the ball, that was interesting to me. The Cougs handily covered the 14 point spread like I expected them to. Marquess did eclipse the 100 yard mark and we suffered zero (knocking on wood) injuries. Finally, if my Busch Light induced memory serves me correctly, Da General only registed one sack, not exceeding the 1.5 total I took the Over on.

One quick note before we get going today, this weekend’s tilt with San Diego St can be caught on The MountainWest Sports Network.  Go here and scroll all the way down and in the bottom right corner, there is a search field for you to type in your zip code to search for local carriers of the network.  Correction, as pointed out by esteemed reader V.X., due to my haste at getting this update in this morning, I originally typed Dish Network. In the Seattle-area, the MountainWest Network can only be found on Direct TV, Channel 616.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at some of this week’s lines from your’s truly.

Vegas Action, Week Three

This week we are going to start with the resurgent defense, which only gave up 159 yards of total offense to the Rebs on Saturday. Interesting number, as that is the average, through Week Two, that stud SDSU RB Ronnie Hillman is averaging. Do the Cougs hold Hillman below his season average? I am going to go with the under on this, as Hillman is stifled for only 87 yards by the surprisingly stingy Cougar D!

The next prop bet I am going to throw at you is the total passing yards by Marshall Loebbasteal.  Through the first two games of the season, Rock Lobster is averaging just shy of 295 yards passing.  The last two weeks SDSU has faced wishbone offenses that run the Triple Option, so the Aztecs may have a hard time adjusting their defense to our aerial attack.  I am going to set the number here at 260, and I believe Marshall will easily hit the over on that number. Last year, the Aztecs were torched by Jordan Wynn late in the season and this year’s Aztecs secondary is nowhere near the cailber of last year’s seconday.

Vegas Action, Week Three

Moving on, last week I took the under on 100 receiving yards by Marquess Wilson. My reasoning is we would be up early and running the ball a ton in addition to the fact that the bevy of weapons Marshall has to choose from would maybe slow Q down. This week, we’re going to look at the same line and I am going to take the under again on it. Having too many weapons is never a bad thing!

Vegas Action, Week Three

Wazzu is +-6.5 and +6, depending on which book you follow, heading into Qualcomm and I think the Cougs cover. This line Opened just the other day at WSU +7.5. This means the Aztecs must win by 7 points or more for WSU to not cover the spread. Looking a bit deeper at this line, three of those points are awarded to SDSU because they are the home team. I do not believe their is any sort of advantage to playing in Qualcomm with only 35,000 fans in the stands of a 70K seats stadium. There may be a few more than that on hand, because I expect a fair share of Crimson butts in the seats. So truly, Vegas sees SDSU as 4 point favorites. This is a line I really like Wazzu to cover, and if a money line were to be established, I would without a doubt lay some money on WSU to win straight up. We all know how WSU’s last visit to Qualcomm as underdogs turned out!

The last prop I am going to establish for Week Three centers around young Rickey Galvin. Rickey didn’t see a whole lots of time last week after the first quarter so his legs should be extremely fresh. In addition, he has shared the load quite a bit the first two weeks and this is the game I expect him to play well into the fourth quarter. The Aztecs will be focused on the passing attack, so expect some draws and misdirection to go for big yards in Rickey’s favor. He will surprise us all with a very big run at some point this weekend! I am going to take the over on 100 yards Rushing for Galvin.

That’s all I have for you today, enjoy your Tuesday. Go Cougs!
