Happy Wednesday afternoon all you Wazzu-Maniacs.
LucasCoug back for another look at some of this week’s action in college football.
Apologies, last week I got caught up with work and life and didn’t get around to hammering this post out for your reading pleasure. I am gearing up for a big weekend, next weekend down in Tempe. I hope to see some of you down there. Oh and congratulations to blog reader David Bach who is tying the knot next weekend in Las Vegas!! Sorry I can’t make it pal, I hope my gift made it in the mail.
Continue reading for more on this weekend’s action….
Bet #1
Michigan State at Northwestern: Sparty rolls into wherever in the state of Illinois that Northwestern is located, ranked inside the Top 10 and coming off a solid loss against a middle of the road Illinois squad. Meanwhile, the Wildcats (I think that is their mascot?) are 5-1 but have faced the likes of Vanderbilt, Minnesota, Central Michigan, Rice, and Illinois State. I see the Spartans cruising in this one 34-10.
Nebraska & Oklahoma State Over 60: Taylor Martinez got his crappy performance out of the way last week, likely blowing the Cornhuskers shot at the BCS National Championship game. Meanwhile, the Cowboys were held to their lowest combined outcome of the season last week as they and Texas Tech only put up 51 points. Other combined scores this season for the Cowboys are, 83, 73, 93, 79, and 82. Don’t be surprised to see this line hit early in the third quarter, if not in the first half!
Idaho -23.5 vs New Mexico State: Four of the Vandals past five games have been on the road, in places such as Nebraska, Colorado, Michigan, and Louisiana. They return to the cozy confines of the Kibbie Dome and face an awful Aggies squad. I don’t know what the final score will be, but I bet a lot of points get put on the board here as well!!
Bet #2:
South Carolina -12.5 at Vanderbilt: Riddle me this. Two weekends ago, the Gamecocks stun the #1 team in the nation, and follow that up with a loss on the road against Kentucky? This weekend Spurrier & Co. head west again to take-on a beleaguered Commodores team. Last week Vandy was smacked around by a crappy Georgia team, and had their only successful NFL player in the past few years smacked around by the Seahawks (see blog reader Dave V with Cutler in Vegas below). Gamecocks by no less than 13 this week!
Washington +6.5 at Arizona: Man, I don’t know what to make of these Huskies. They have lost to teams they have absolutely zero business losing to (see, BYU and ASU) and have beat teams they really shouldn’t have beat (see, USC and OSU). This week they travel down to Tucson to take on the reeling Wildcats, who will be without starting QB Nick Foles (you’re very welcome crappy Husky defense). I think we see another close one this weekend, and the Dawgs cover or win if Jake Locker can replicate last weekend’s performance!
Oregon -24.5 vs UCLA: Not even thinking twice about picking the Quacks here as Chip Kelly has had two weeks to game plan for this one coming off the Duck win in Pullman. Neuheisel has suspended a few key players for this game. Oh, and did I mention this is a Thursday Night, ESPN Game of the Week, and it’s in Eugene. Do you need any other reason to like the Ducks in this one?
That is all I have for this week’s edition folks, not a lot of other interesting lines out there. Our beloved Cougs, who have covered three consecutive weeks are currently 35 point underdogs in Palo Alto.
Have a great rest of your Wednesday! Go Cougs!
