This is some much needed ‘therapy’ for me in regards to the Brewers. I usually am pretty good about not letting a loss or two get me down, but the Brewers are about to lose their third in a row and the first two on a crucial six game homestand. I fully realize that this is all part of the ups and downs of the season. It’s actually quite fun being a fan in this pennant race that now involves three teams. Even with the well below average play since the middle of May, I still think the Brewers have enough talent to win the division. That is of course if players that have under-performed thus far start to step up. Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun have been nothing short of amazing all year. They have become two of the top young players in all of baseball and may already be the top corner infielder tandems in the entire NL. Despite his massive drop off in productivity, JJ Hardy is still putting up numbers that very few people thought he would. Corey Hart is on pace for a 20/20 season and that should be the low end of his offensive production for the next few years. Geoff Jenkins, Bill Hall and Rickie Weeks all need to step up their games. Jenkins, who has hit 4 home runs in his last 3 game, seems like he is finding his second half hot streak that he goes on every year. Hall and Weeks both have struggled at the plate all season. Both have more than enough talent to turn their bad seasons around, but they need to do it very, very soon. The pitching staff is an absolute mess. The bullpen is overworked due to the lack of the starters going deep into games. The team desperately needs staff ace Ben Sheets to steady the ship. Francisco Cordero still leads the NL in saves and Scott Linebrink has been solid since being acquired from the Padres. Carlos Villanueva is lucky his arm hasn’t fallen off with all the innings he’s logged this season in both relief outings and spot starts. Chris Capuano hasn’t won a game since April and looks nothing like the pitcher that won 30 games the last 2 seasons. Yovani Gallardo has now had 2 very bad outings in a row and it now looks like his confidence is starting to be effected. Okay, that’s enough ranting for right now. The team is still in first place which is AMAZING. I am just hoping that those that need to step up do so sooner rather than later and they can get that division title.
