Franklin Gutierrez and Milton Bradley combined for four hits, four runs, and four RBIs to help the M’s best Justin Verlander and the Tigs, 5-3. Bradley’s RBI single and Jose Lopez’s sac fly, plating Gutierrez, in the 8th inning put the Mariners ahead for good. David Aardsma shut down the 8-9-1 portion of the Tigers lineup in the 9th inning for his 10th save of the season.
Justin Verlander didn’t have bad stuff, but he couldn’t get past the Guti/Bradley portion of the Mariners lineup. They both hit home runs off JV, who only allowed three HR in his first 58 innings before tonight. Of all the streaks JV could have upheld tonight, the one we wanted him to end he didn’t, which was his pitch count streak of 115+ pitches. He lost his winning streak and games pitching 6+ innings while only allowing four or less hits, but threw 117 pitches. That streak is now at a career high seven straight games.
Tigers and Mariners wrap up this two game series tomorrow at 3:40 PM EST.
