This week in the Post-Dispatch, Media Reporter Dan Caesar profiled longtime KMOX and KSDK sportscaster Ron Jacober as he draws near retirement.
I’d encourage you to read the whole thing if you’re a nerd like me and enjoy the history of sportscasting in St. Louis.
One of the more interesting tidbits to come out the piece was about Harry Caray. He was fired from the Cardinals broadcast booth in 1969 after spending 25 years associated with the team. Of course this was a big deal and everyone wanted the first interview.
Jacober landed it. And the video can be seen HERE.
Please try and imagine if this happened in 2014 and, say, Mike Shannon did this interview with a beer in his hand.
