The naysayers would have you believe Lovie Smith is Mr. Spock or Commander Data from Star Trek Lore: totally devoid of emotion, unable to feel to transfer feelings to his players.
There is a difference between being in control of ones faculties, and not having them. This video shows Lovie Smith pregame, patting his players on the helmets. We don’t see this too often, because truthfully, cameras tend to be biased to the better teams. You see less of the Bucs, unless of course your watching a Bucs preseason game, on the Bucs network.
Even Tony Dungy showed emotion, he was just in control of his emotion. It was no wonder that the Bucs, who started out 3-4 for the last 3 years of his reign in Tampa Bay, always recovered to make the playoffs. His team was cool and collected like he was.
Lovie Smith is no different, he is a Tony Dungy clone, and we all know Dungy learned his lesson about ignoring the offense. Smith came in and in his first draft took nothing but offensive players and went after, and got, one of the top offensive minds in football.
Just not the healthiest.
In case you can’t tell, this footage is from the Pittsburgh Game. Bucs Won.
