As you get ready for your Christmas Day NBA smorgasbord, I give you some past memorable matchups. With the Celtics-Lakers game being the showcase on ABC today at 5, we go back into the vaults to remember some other great Christmas Day games.
Here’s an intro to when the NBA was at its peak in popularity and in network TV coverage. We go back to 1992 when the Knicks and Bulls were in the midst of their heated rivalry. Michael Jordan. Patrick Ewing. Scottie Pippen. Xavier McDaniel. It didn’t get any better than this. And you had Marv Albert voicing the intro for NBC.
To the wayback machine in 1984 where the Knicks’ Bernard King laid 60 on the hapless Nets. I believe Jim Karvalis is on the call for MSG Network in the NBA TV highlights.
To Christmas Day 1986 when the Knicks and Bulls battled at Madison Square Garden.
And here’s NBA TV’s Steve Smith recounting his Top 5 Christmas Day games.
That’s it. Merry Christmas.
