The 2-1 Minnesota Vikings are set to take on the 3-0 Denver Broncos Sunday afternoon at 3:25 pm at Mile High Stadium in Denver Colorado. Here are three quick things you need to know ahead of Sunday’s “most watchable game” according to USA Today.
TV/Radio Information
The game will be televised on Fox beginning at 3:25 with Kevin Burkhardt and John Lynch on the call. The coverage area includes most of the western United States and almost all of the midwest. Paul Allen will also be broadcasting live on KFAN which FM 100.3 in the immediate coverage area. The game can be streamed online via NFL Sunday Ticket and live audio can be heard outside of KFAN’s coverage area via NFL Game Pass.
The Matchup
The Denver Broncos enter Sunday’s matchup undefeated, still lead by ageless wonder Peyton Manning but everything isn’t business as usual for the mile high city. Questions surrounding Manning’s capabilities abound and Denver’s victories this season have been less than convincing narrowly defeating 1-3 Baltimore and 1-2 Kansas. Minnesota on the other hand come in surging after inexplicably dropping their season opener against San Francisco but achieving double digit victories over Detroit and San Diego.
Minnesota are 7 point underdogs according to oddsshark.com and the line has been moving steadily in Denver’s direction after the Vikings opened at 4 and a half point underdogs. In the two team’s last 5 matchups Denver own a narrow 3-2 lead however Minnesota’s last victory over Denver was in 2003.
Expect a heavy dose of Adrian Peterson as the Vikings will look to keep second year QB Teddy Bridgewater in manageable situations against a dangerous Denver secondary. Minnesota will also look to keep Manning off the field as much as possible.
The Vikings have downplayed the effects of altitude heading into the contest which should, if anything, allow Vikings kicker Blair Walsh to get back into rhythm.
Injury Report
The Vikings could be without two wide receivers for Sunday’s game as NFL.com writer Ian Rapoport is reporting Jarius Wright will miss “a game or two” with the injury. Local media also reported fellow wide receiver Charles Johnson did not practice on Friday which makes his prospects for playing Sunday very dim. ESPN’s Ben Goessling also reported that Justin Trattou, Andrew Sendejo and Jabari Price did not practice on Thursday. Xavier Rhodes did return to practice after suffering a concussion vs San Diego. Good news for a Vikings secondary that will be under siege on Sunday.
The Broncos also enter with a case of the injury bug as offensive lineman Ty Sambrailo, fullback James Casey, linebacker Todd Davis and guard Evan Mathis did not practice on Thursday according to 9news.
