The Minnesota Vikings will once again take to the field on Primetime TV when they face the Arizona Cardinals on NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football. Coming off of the worst home loss in 31 years to the Seattle Seahawks 38-7, the Vikings are looking to bounce back to their winning ways in Arizona.
But that will be a tall order for the beat up physically and mentally Vikings. The Cardinals defense has held their last two opponents to 133 yards on the ground. And their offense is even better; Arizona leads the NFL in total offense with 419 yards per game, 382 points and 45 touchdowns. Cardinals QB Carson Palmer has thrown for 29 touchdowns this season.
That high powered offense is going to be tough to beat with our banged up defense. Anthony Barr (groin), Harrison Smith (knee, hamstring) and Linval Joseph (foot) have all been declared inactive for Thursday night’s game. That is in addition to Andrew Sendejo (knee) and Brandon Watts (rib). The Vikings have signed Shaun Prater and Anthony Harris to help their safety position.
While all of this seems to spell out we’re doomed, I would hope that the Vikings don’t roll over and play dead. Yes last week was embarrassing, and they only had 4 days to practice and lick their wounds. But that humbling loss might be what was needed. After the game, Bruce Irvin linebacker for the Seahawks, said that Teddy Bridgewater “looked scared” while he was on the field. “I’m going to make sure I remember those words,” Bridgewater said. “But I can’t lock in and pay too much attention to that. We have a game here and I have to shift my focus to that.” And hopefully remembering those words and that loss is the fire that the beat up Vikings need.
