The Minnesota Vikings (7-3) will be taking a road trip this week to the Georgia Dome to play the Atlanta Falcons (6-4). The Vikings lost their 1st game since Week 4 after losing to the Green Bay Packers 13-30 last Sunday. But the Falcons are coming off their 3rd consecutive loss after to the Indianapolis Colts 21-24.

Both sides of the football were out of sync to say the least. The offense was held to 13 points- its lowest since the season opener and their defense allowed a season high 30, well above the average of 18 the Vikings allowed during their winning streak. They also ran for just 94 yards, snapping a streak of four consecutive games with at least 140.

What won’t help the Vikings hopeful defense rebound is the loss of Harrison Smith. He was ruled out after a left knee injury early in last week’s game. He missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday before being limited in Friday’s practice and ultimately being ruled out today. Antone Exum could possibly get the start on Sunday.

But the Falcons are starting to come apart at the seams. Matt Ryan threw three more interceptions, giving him a total of six in the last four games. His worst was a pass from his own end zone straight to linebacker D’Qwell Jackson; he turned that into a 6 yard score to tie the game at 21 early in the fourth quarter.

While the Vikings loss to the Packers was awful, they still sit atop of the NFC with Green Bay losing to Chicago and still have a chance at the Playoff’s. They still have six games left and will face Green Bay again on January 3rd.
