If Villanova had any chances of making the NCAA Tournament, they needed to win today’s game versus the Pittsburgh Panthers and sadly they did not. The Wildcats fell 73-64 in overtime. If you were watching today’s telecast they said it was a tale of two halves and it definitely was.
In the first half, it was all about Villanova as they got hot and continued that into the second half. Freshman guard Ryan Arcidiacono scored a game high 23 points. He was also 5 of 8 from the three point line. The Wildcats continued to battle with the Panthers as forward Mouphtaou Yarou hit clutch baskets and finished the game with 14 points and eight rebounds.
With the game coming down to the wire in regulation with the Panthers down three, Jeff Robinson hit a key three pointer to tie it up and then in overtime hit another three pointer to end the Wildcats hopes of a win.
Villanova’s record is now 18-12 and 9-8 in the Big East. With their NCAA Tournament hopes fading fast, they take on No. 7 Georgetown on Wednesday night at 7:00 pm in the regular season finale before the Big East Tournament.
For the Wildcats to get off the bubble and into the tourney, they need to win on Wednesday night and go far in the Big East Tournament.
