The Brewers kept pace with the Cubs with a 5-2 win over the Reds Sunday. Carlos Villanueva continued looking great in his starting role, scattering 6 hits and 0 runs in 7 IP. Villanueva is now 8-4, 4.11.
At the plate, the Crew only collected 6 hits–all off of Reds’ starter Matt Belisle. It was newcomer Joe Dillon that provided the spark Sunday–getting 2 of the 6 hits, as well as 4 of the 5 RBI’s…as well as the only extra base hit.
Yovani Gallardo, (8-4, 3.99) takes the mound in Houston tomorrow night.
With 14 games remaining, all of the starters except for Villanueva are slated to get three more starts apiece. Ben Sheets, now scheduled for Tuesday the 18th, Sunday the 23rd, and Friday the 28th is no longer likely to get an extra start the last day of the season, but could, theoretically, be used in relief. Sunday’s starter, Carlos Villanueva, and tomorrow’s starter, Yovani Gallardo, could also pitch on three and two days rest, respectively.
