Tim Dillard was bypassed in favor of Carlos Villanueva for Tuesday night’s game as the new fifth starter for the Brewers. Dillard, already called up, will pitch out of the pen.
But after starter Jeff Suppan’s collapse Monday night in the 5th inning, in which he eventually gave up 10 ER’s in 5.33 IP, Brewers’ fans have got to wonder why Jeff Suppan is still in the rotation.
I suspect it has to do with his salary and tenure…but Suppan belongs in the bullpen. He just doesn’t have it anymore…and with a playoff birth still possible, skipper Ken Macha needs to make the difficult decision–to move Suppan to the bullpen. Suppan is reasonably effective in his first 15 pitches–a BAA of only .267–but then tanks after his 15th pitch.
We’ll find out Tuesday night if the Brewers need to add a starter…or two of them.
