Good Monday morning everyone…. What better way to get your day started than with realizing we are just another step closer to the start of Wisconsin Badgers football, right? Today we're just Vince Biegel to Badger football, a.k.a.. 47 days away from the start of the football season for the Cardinal and White.
Biegel's Story So Far:
– Vince saw action against UTEP and Utah State last season, but recorded no stats in his freshman season
– With switch to 3-4 defense Biegel is well in the mix, if not the favorite to win a starting job as an outside linebacker.
– He was a Parade and U.S. Army All-American as well as a four-star recruit by 247sports and ranked 180th nationally.
– Biegel is majoring in human ecology with an emphasis on relating (yes that's an actual thing… apparently)
– His Father and Uncle both played football at BYU in the late 1980's and early 90's. Younger brother Hayden is a member of the 2013 Badger recruiting class and will be freshman this season.
History of No. 47 at Wisconsin:
Eddie Jankowski (FB, 1934-36): Was named team MVP twice before being drafted by the Green Bay Packers and playing five seasons of professional football. He was named to the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame in 1984 and the UW Athletic Hall of Fame in 1992. Jankowski served as an officer in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific theater. He also coached Whitefish Bay High School's football team to five undefeated seasons after his service to his country.
Eric Unverzagt (LB, 1992-1995): Finished his career at Wisconsin with 296 tackles, which ranks 21st all-time on the career tackles list at UW, but his 199 career solo tackles ranks him 9th all-time. Unverzagt was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the 4th round of the 1997 NFL Draft, playing two seasons in the league.
