Vivek Ranadivé is in the running for a prestigious award that honors the best in sports business.

The Sacramento Kings chairman has been nominated for Street & Smith’s Sports Business Award’s “Sports Executive of the Year”.  According to a Kings press release, the award was launched in 2008 by SportsBusiness Journal and SportsBusiness Daily “to celebrate and recognize leaders for excellence and outstanding achievement in the business of sports”.

“It is truly an honor to be recognized among such esteemed peers,”  Ranadivé said in a prepared statement. “I want to thank the Kings fans, as none of our success would be possible without their unrivaled passion and support. When my partners and I purchased the Kings in 2013, I was immediately humbled by the fans’ dedication. And today we’re on track to truly build a 21st century franchise, powered by innovative technologies, an expansive global reach and a deep commitment to serving the community. This nomination is a nod to the power of NBA 3.0 and all who are contributing to make it a reality.”

Nominated alongside Ranadivé is Gary Bettman (NHL Commissioner), Randy Freer (Fox Sports Chief Operating Officer), Don Garber (MLS Commissioner) and Kevin Plank (Under Armour Founder and CEO).  This year’s nominees and winners are being recognized for their “excellence and outstanding achievement in the business of sports” during the period of March 1, 2013 to Feb. 28, 2014.  Each nominee will be prominently featured in a preview issue that will be published on May 19.

Ranadivé’s award will be determined by the editorial staff of SportsBusiness Journal and SportsBusiness Daily.  A winner will be announced on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 in New York.
