During the final minute of the C’s drubbing of Utah on Friday, Von Wafer had a highlight-reel putback dunk. Luke Harangody missed a three-pointer, and Von came down the lane and slammed it back through with one hand.
When Von was brought in this summer, most C’s fans, including myself, knew him for his outside shooting, specifically from deep. But what people don’t know is that Von is also a great athlete and an explosive leaper. Going all the way back to his high school days, Vakeaton has been dunking on folks.
Probably some of his finest dunks were done in the 2003 Powerade “Jam Fest”-a high school slam dunk contest broadcast each year on ESPN. Von finished in 2nd place behind only Lebron James. Many people thought Von was robbed, as his dunks were all more creative & more difficult. James’ final dunk was a run of the mill reverse alley-oop. See here and judge for yourself:
