Wade Philips doesn’t want to play with Glazers

wade philipsThats it, the Gig is up Glazers, Wade Philips is on to you.
And maybe that is our best hope as Bucs fans that this overly geriatric coaching search may have actually been more of an information accumulation.
And Wade Philips probably didn’t want the Bucs to pick his brain like Sherman and the others.

I still would love to see Marty Schottenheimer come in and coach here, but I would hold out for an exciting offensive or defensive coordinator who has a proven track record of working with someone. While this person is not likely to be a big name, it may be the best outcome for the Bucs.

However its also possible the Bucs are looking at a Schottenheimer as a bridge to a new young coach, thinking Bucs fans will get excited once the Bucs can start winning again, and then sell a new young coach as another version of “Look were doing the Dungy to Gruden thing again”.

Philips informed the Bucs he was withdrawing from consideration for the Bucs job. He did so the day before the interview, and with the playoffs looming for Houston, you cant blame him. Perhaps Philips had a change of heart. He’s getting up in the years, and maybe he’s had his fill of head coaching, although his comments havnt said so.

A new Bucs coach is going to have to be strong willed, there are a lot of characters on this team that need to be won over, but not by being close to them and enabling, but by being a strong character for them to look up to. Kellen Winslow Jr, Aqib Talib, LeGarrette Blount are all Bucs players that could go either way, and Ronde Barber’s continuing carrer hangs in the balance too.

The search goes on.
