Why can’t Red Sox pitchers get it together at the same time? Beckett figures it out and then Wake loses it. For the first part of the season Wakefield was the ace of the staff but now he is getting hit around and his ERA is moving on up. Wake took a page out of Lester’s book and gave up 5 runs in the 5th inning to the Jays. Daniel Bard came in to relieve Wake and confounded Toronto batters with 5 K’s. The Sox had 11 hits but couldn’t push runners across the plate. David Ortiz hit a near grand slam in the game but it did not get out of the park and he ended up with another dissapointing 0-fer. J.D. Drew finally did something since moving to the 3 spot by hitting a tater in the 7th. Ells, Bay and Lugo each had multiple hits in the game.
With the loss and a Yankee win the Red Sox move into second place by half a game.
