Wow… It's been quite a few days since we last came to you on our jersey countdown to the kick-off of Badgers football, but relax we are back to give you the skinny (well, in most cases not so skinny) on what's in store for Badger football this coming season. Oh, and giving you a quick history lesson on the Badger football program as well. Today we catch up on two days worth as we made a boo-boo and missed one yesterday. So…
Yesterday we were Walker Williams away from Badger football and it was a sad situation. He was playing with the 2nd team offensive line as a tackle all spring leading up to the sprained MCL he suffered during the spring. Could Williams be one that ends up getting the spot at right tackle behind Rob Havenstein? Only time will tell, but since he hasn't seen the field at all there's no stats to tell you. Let us move now to the history portion of our countdown.
History of No. 62 at Wisconsin:
Paul Gruber (OT, 1984-87): Gruber was easily the best offensive lineman the Badgers had in the 80's and arguably the best all-around player of that decade. He was an All-American and All-Big Ten player in 1987 along with being named team MVP that season. He went on to be drafted No. 4 overall in the 1988 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, playing until 1999, making three pro bowl appearances.
Lamark Shackerford (DT, 1990-1993): Shackerford was one of the biggest names to help turn around the Badgers program. He was part of the first class in the Barry Alvarez era. Shackerford, from Iowa, became an All-Big Ten pick by the time he was a senior. Overall his performance was one of the biggest building blocks to the success Wisconsin has seen since then.
