Warriors Bob Myers Agrees To Three-Year Extension As General Manager (Photo: @letsgowarriors Instagram account)
According to Mercury News reporter Tim Kawakami, general manager Bob Myers has agreed to a three-year contract extension late last week with the Golden State Warriors.
This new deal, set the run through the 2017-18, will reportedly be added to his current deal that was set to expire at the end of this coming year.
Myers, 39, began his stint with the Warriors in April 2011 as their assistant general manager under former GM Larry Riley. Myers was promoted to his current position a year later.
In his first NBA draft in 2012, Myers drafted Harrison Barnes, Festus Ezeli, Draymond Green and Ognjen Kuzmic.
He also made key free agent signings in Jarrett Jack and Carl Landry, both of whom competed for Sixth Man of the Year honors that season.
Arguably his best move, however, was his signing of Stephen Curry to a bargain deal.
That year, the Warriors finished with a 47-35 season record, which was good enough to secure the sixth seed in the Western Conference. The team upset the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the playoffs, later losing in the second round to the eventual runner-ups, the San Antonio Spurs.
Although his drafting of Nemanja Nedovic didn’t match the success of his first draft, Myers was able to turn Andris Biedrins and Richard Jefferson into NBA star, Andre Iguodala.
Last season, Myers worked to turn Toney Douglas into Jordan Crawford and MarShon Brooks, pairing the latter with Kent Bazemore for Steve Blake shortly after. Myers also inked a deal with NBA veteran, Jermaine O’Neal, who was key in helping the team achieve a 51-31 season record this past season.
Myers has been criticized for not being able to negotiate a deal for Kevin Love, but he’s signed a much-needed upgrade at backup point guard in Shaun Livingston; in addition, he’s signed cheap bench help in Brandon Rush and Leandro Barbosa, as well as a new head coach in Steve Kerr.
Probably next in the queue for Myers: negotiate a contract extension for Klay Thompson.
