James Michael McAdoo of the Santa Cruz Warriors has agreed to another 10-day contract with the Golden State Warriors. This is the second 10-day contract McAdoo has agreed to with Golden State.
As some may recall, McAdoo, 22, first played with Golden State’s Summer League team, averaging 9.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.2 blocks before being let go after the preseason. He was sent down to the team’s D-League affiliate in Santa Cruz, which motivated him to improve offensively and round out the other areas of his game.
“After being let go by Golden State, [I’m] just really trying to continue to develop my offensive game,” McAdoo said after playing in the 2015 NBA D-League Showcase. “But also on the defensive end — just trying to be a guy that can guard multiple positions, block shots — just be a sound defender and, obviously, rebound the ball.”
Following a couple of versatile performances during the Showcase tournament, McAdoo signed his first 10-day contract to with Golden State.
During his time with the team, McAdoo made his NBA debut on Jan. 19 in a 122-79 win over the Denver Nuggets. He contributed 11-points on 4-for-5 shooting in 13 minutes, leading many to believe that McAdoo deserved to be kept on the squad for the remainder of the season. A 6-9 forward out of North Carolina, McAdoo’s presence gave Golden State another athletic big body to help out defensively.
Unfortunately with Golden State’s crowded rotation, McAdoo was limited to garbage time play and saw very little time on the floor despite showing promise in his rookie debut. He played in three games total, accumulating 14 points, five rebounds, one block and one steal in 19 minutes played.
After completing his first 10-day tenure, however, McAdoo returned to the NBA D-League and impressed with a 39-point, 11-rebound game that preceded a 36-point, 15-rebound performance.
It was announced Monday morning that the team would be brining McAdoo back for a second 10-day contract, which supports the notion that Golden State is very much intrigued by McAdoo’s upside.
McAdoo, who chose to sign his first 10-day NBA contract with Golden State rather than the Memphis Grizzlies due to the former’s continued investment in his future, stated during the Showcase that he holds the Warriors organization in the highest regard.
“I feel like Santa Cruz is the best D-League organization,” McAdoo said.
“[I had] offers to go play overseas — they were ample, they were there — but at the end of the day, I want to play in the NBA, and I feel like this is the greatest opportunity.”
With Golden State offering McAdoo another 10-day contract, it would seem that McAdoo’s faith in the organization is by no means misplaced.
McAdoo currently holds per game averages of 19.3 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.4 blocks playing for the Santa Cruz Warriors.
