Recap Round-Up

Here’s a selection of the best beatwriters from the Warriors and Mavericks:

Monte Poole of CSN Bay Area:

Contributions were spread across the board, with 11 players entering the scoring column, led by Andrew Bogut’s 15 points. Klay Thompson had 14 points and Stephen Curry put in 10 in 22 minutes.
.
Jordan Crawford put on a fabulous shooting display during a 14-point first half, finishing with a game-high 19 in 23 minutes. Harrison Barnes added 13.
.
With a 79-57 lead after three quarters – and crucial game against the Clippers on Wednesday in Los Angeles – Warriors coach Mark Jackson rested his starters for all but a few minutes of the fourth.
.
The win puts the Warrior a full three games ahead of Dallas (38-27) in the Western Conference playoff race.

Poole again:

Jordan Crawford stood before the assembled media late Tuesday night as if he were facing a firing squad. He squirmed. He scanned the room. He kept his answers flat, brief and unrevealing.
.
Clearly uncomfortable, he never once mentioned his nickname: “Sizzle.”
……
“It’s huge,” reserve forward Harrison Barnes said of the unit’s output. “You look at last year, when we had Steph playing 45 minutes, Klay playing a ton of minutes. It’s hard to do that all season long. Now that our second unit is playing better, we can give the starters some relief and balance it out.”
……
When I asked Crawford if he considered, even for a minute, of disclosing his semi-secret nickname, he broke into a broad grin.
.
“Naw, man,” he said. “I can’t do that. Then I’d have to explain.”
.
I beg to differ. Crawford’s game, on this night, was all the explanation needed.

Rusty Simmons of the San Francisco Chronicle:

Curry got an early rest because of his ailing right quadriceps, and the Warriors managed to reel off a 25-6 run without their best player on the floor for a stretch that spanned the first and second quarters. Crawford knocked down his first six shots and scored 14 points before Curry made his first bucket.
.
The Warriors took their largest first-half lead when Crawford made an impossible-looking turnaround fadeaway to make it 45-27 with 7 ½ minutes remaining. At that point, the Warriors’ reserves were outscoring the team’s starters 27-18 and the starting five was cheering on every play with Kent Bazemore-like enthusiasm.

Sarah Todd of SFBay.ca:

Warriors coach Mark Jackson said Crawford doesn’t get the credit he deserves — especially since the arrival of Steve Blake — telling SFBay Crawford’s performance and the win great are huge at this point in the season:
.
“It was a big time win for us. If you lose this game, all of a sudden there are three teams again within striking distance. I think this gave us some breathing room especially considering we have a big game tomorrow night against a red hot Clipper team.”
.
In the final seconds of the opening quarter Steve Blake’s pass inside was bumped by Dirk Nowitzki, but Crawford was there to pick up the ball and hit a buzzer beater sending fans into a frenzy.
.
Crawford continued to go off is the second frame sending up a heat check with 6:56 left in the first half to make the score 45-27.

Diamond Leung of the Bay Area News Group:

“You watch the great teams in this league, and that’s how they handle business,” Jackson said. “They win ballgames. They get their star players rest. They take care of business, and that’s exactly what we did tonight.”
.
Midseason trade acquisitions Blake and Crawford along with Harrison Barnes and Draymond Green hit 3-pointers while Jermaine O’Neal had six of his seven rebounds during the sudden turn of events.
.
The starters seemed energized by the second unit as Curry bounded off the bench when Dallas was forced to call timeout before he checked back into the game. The starters’ collective reaction?
.
“Lovin’ it,” center Andrew Bogut said.
……
“We have a legitimate second unit with no weaknesses,” Jackson said.

Antonio Gonzalez of the Associated Press:

During one sequence, Andre Iguodala blocked Shawn Marion’s layup, then ran the length of the court to dunk Stephen Curry’s missed 3-pointer, sending most in the announced sellout crowd of 19,596 roaring to their feet. Bogut also finished an alley-hoop with one hand over Ellis, the player he was traded for from Milwaukee in March 2012.
.
The Mavericks still managed to end the half with the momentum. Nowitzki made two free throws before Vince Carter stole Iguodala’s inbounds pass and hit a 3-pointer before the buzzer sounded to slice Golden State’s lead to 55-44 at the break.
.
Nowitzki later moved into a tie with John Havlicek for 12th place on the NBA’s career scoring list. Both have 26,395 points.
.
The Warriors’ defense dominated Dallas for most of the third and fourth quarters, though, smothering Nowitzki and closing out fast on shooters. The Warriors went ahead 81-57 with 11:29 remaining and never let the Mavericks move much closer.
