Golden State Warriors and Nemanja Nedovic Part Ways

The Golden State Warriors and Nemanja Nedovic have parted ways, the team announced on Wednesday. The announcement came just hours before the Warriors 113-100 loss to the San Antonio Spurs.

Nedovic was in his second season with the team that acquired him via a draft night trade with the Phoenix Suns after taking him 30th overall in the 2013 NBA Draft.

In his first season with the Warriors, Nedovic averaged 1.1 points and 0.5 assists per game, all while only appearing in 24 games. Nedovic split his time with both Golden State and their D-League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors.

At this year’s Media Day, LetsGoWarriors spoke to Nedovic. He talked about last season and how he hopes to leave the struggles in the rear view mirror.

“I kind of left last season in the past,” Nedovic told us, “I want to forget it because it was a really turbulent season. I just want to leave the talking aside. I want to go on the court and play, earn my minutes, and make it in to the rotation.”

Making it in to the rotation is something that never happened for Nedovic this season. In the 6 games that the Warriors played with him on the 15-man roster, Nedovic did not appear in a single game.

Nedovic did have a decent preseason showing. Although he only averaged 2.7 points, and 1.5 assists per game, he showed promise in the game against the Houston Rockets. In 23 minutes, Nedovic had 16 points on 6-for-10 shooting, perhaps his best performance in a Warriors uniform.

According to Bay Area News Group’s Diamond Leung, who broke the story, the Warriors could collect some of the money from his contract if he ends up back in Europe:

The Warriors could recover some of the $1.1 million salary owed to Nedovic this season if they buy out his contract and the Serbia native lands with one of the European teams reportedly interested in him.
.
Nedovic, who would need to clear waivers for such an arrangement to be worked out, has not appeared in a single regular season game for the Warriors this season and two weeks ago learned the team would decline his $1.15 million option for next season.

Nedovic never found his grove on a team that was desperate for a back up point guard. With Shaun Livingston getting in to the swing of things after missing training camp with a toe injury, there was little room for error for Nedovic.
