The slumping Celtics run into the Golden State buzz-saw tonight in a game that might require a miracle for them to win. The Warriors need to win 5 of their final 7 games to eclipse the Bulls record of 72 regular season wins.
I’m loving the Warriors success, in large part because they’re fun to watch and they’re keeping LeBron and Cleveland from winning a title. But GS owner Joe Lacob sounds like a guy who needs some humility:
He boasted that the Warriors are playing in a far more sophisticated fashion than the rest of the league. “We’ve crushed them on the basketball court, and we’re going to for years because of the way we’ve built this team,” he said. But what really set the franchise apart, he said, was the way it operated as a business. “We’re light-years ahead of probably every other team in structure, in planning, in how we’re going to go about things,” he said. “We’re going to be a handful for the rest of the N.B.A. to deal with for a long time.”
Hey Joe, your structure and planning isn’t going to matter much if your star player tweaks his shaky right ankle.
I get that success breed confidence, but you’d think the owner of a franchise that’s been an embarrassment to the league for decades might ease up on the arrogant comments. Prior to last season, the Warriors had 2 playoff series wins in 20 years. They went 17 seasons with ONE playoff appearance.
Lacob was a minority investor with Wyc Grousbeck’s team that bought the Celtics in 2002. Here’s hoping his old team puts up a fight tonight and keeps them away from history.
Go Celts!
