ESPN New Hampshire has the scoop:
According to Georges Niang of Iowa State, the Boston Celtics offered their head coaching job to Fred Hoiberg before they offered it to Brad Stevens.

3:55 mark – Niang “I know he is committed to us. Even after Brad Stevens got the Celtics job, he texted me and said Boston offered me the job and I turned it down.”
Hoiberg, the current coach at Iowa State and former assistant GM for the Minnesota T-Wolves, was considered a candidate for the Celtics head coaching job soon after Doc Rivers quit on the team, the city and all Celtics fans. He is widely regarded as an up-and-coming coach with NBA potential.
Had Hoiberg accepted Ainge’s “offer,” I’m sure I would have talked myself into liking the move. I took the same approach with Brad Stevens.
Stevens doesn’t seem like a guy who would give a damn about being option #2. The Celtics gave him $22 million reasons to smile.
